Sometime in mid-2014 is when I stopped perming my hair for good. I didn’t do the “big chop” and truthfully I regret it.
I let the perm grow out naturally instead, cutting it along the way. The reason I regret it is because I would have had substantial growth by now. But I believe everything happens for a reason. When I stopped perming my hair the thing that I didn’t do was stop applying heat to my hair. That is where I messed up at.
My hair was growing but it wasn’t flourishing the way it is now. I can absolutely tell the difference. I never understood why my hair at the time wasn’t getting thicker, or longer. I wasn’t really seeing any dramatic growth because I kept applying heat.
Here are some pictures of my natural hair. No perm BEFORE the chop.
Very first professional blow out after all the perm grew out…
Months after… it started growing but wasn’t very thick
You can see the gaps here…
After some months I thought I would cut it so it would grow back healthier… at this point, it did appear to be better but was still very thin.
October 2017 is when I decided to chop it all off and start over FRESH. I was nervous because I was natural for the last 3 years and it just felt like wasted time.
Chopping my hair off and starting fresh was just what I needed!
I’m FINALLY seeing some REAL results!
If you are like me and let your perm grow out and aren’t seeing the results you want after trying many, many different products you may just want to chop it all off and start over!
What I think is the MOST important thing in seeing results is NO HEAT.
It’s been 8 months now and I haven’t applied any heat to my hair and honey…
It is more thick and healthier than EVER!
More than likely I will go many more months maybe even a year or so without applying any heat at all.
I actually didn’t intend on posting this because this was my first time doing this style and I didn’t have the right hair products or the right headband. My hair was pretty dry here as well but don’t mind it! Will post a better one once I get the right products! I also slept on it lol… Just showing you guys the thickness!
The products I find BEST to use to achieve thick and full hair are…
- Wild growth oil– Apply 3 times per week, massage in the scalp. You can mix both together in a separate bottle or just buy one. I use the white bottle.
2. Jamaican black castor oil- This product is very thick and has a sticky like texture. When applying, I pour about a quarter size (x 2) in my palm and distribute throughout making sure I get my ends and massage in my scalp. I usually do this 2 times a week.
This stuff right here is the TRUTH! It grew my hair very thick very fast!!
3. Coconut oil- Coconut oil is like a must-have, honestly, YOU NEED THIS. Coconut oil nourishes and conditions the hair stimulates the growth and gives you length! Use as an everyday moisturizer.
4. Olive oil- I have never used olive oil as apart of my regimen but my aunt has and she has seen a lot of growth using this with a combination of other products.
What you need to do is warm up olive oil in the microwave for a few seconds and pour it into a bottle that has a nozzle.
Apply before you are about to wash your hair as a hot oil treatment and put on a shower cap for 20-30 minutes then wash it out.
As far as shampoo, I use only…
Cantu- I wash my hair once every two weeks and I do not apply any heat.
When detangling my hair after I shower I use this leave-in conditioner and it makes the whole process a lot easier!
Shea moisture- Definitely one of my favorites! I use Cantu when I’m on a budget lol. But this shampoo is amazing and it doesn’t leave my hair dry and it doesn’t strip it! Also smells really good
-Do not over wash your hair. That strips the natural oils which are needed for growth.
-Keep your hair moisturized but don’t over moisturize. You can clog your scalp and then your hair won’t grow!
-Trim when necessary ( I haven’t trimmed in 8 months, not necessary!)
– Keep a consistent regimen.
-Keep protective styles.
-If needed start FRESH. BIG CHOPPP!
